Whiskey Pecans

Whiskey Pecans are one of my favorite snacks that my Mom makes. I’m sure they will become your new favorite snack too! Whiskey Pecans are the perfect balance of sweet, salty and spicy all in one! They do take a little bit of effort to make, but I promise it is well worth it!

-I like to not only eat the pecans by themselves, but they also taste great on a salad or on pancakes 🙂

Agri-Fact: Pecans are native to Texas and I guess that is why I love them so much!  When I visit my parents down in Houston the Pecans are so fresh, buttery and tasty, nothing can compare. In Texas you can find pecans for sale at the farmers market or purchase them online to ensure freshness. Pecan’s are in season from October til the end of March. Pecan farming is a way of life for some farmers in the south. It takes anywhere from 3-4 years for a pecan tree to bear its first fruit, but from there on out the farmers are set up for life! A Pecan tree can live over 200 years old and they don’t require much work during the growing season. Pecan Farmers can sell their pecans shelled or unshelled, but we mostly see them unshelled at our grocery stores in the North. Pecans require little processing which also makes them a healthy option.  The American Heart Association certifies pecans “Heart Healthy”, because they have oleic acid and phenolic antioxidants, which prevent heart disease.

Prep Time: 10 minutes                                             Bake Time: 1:30 at 250 °

 Grocery List:

  • 1 lb. of Pecans (I recommend buying them at Sam’s Club or Costco)
  • 1 Large Egg White
  • 2 TBS Jack Daniels
  • 1 TBS Agave Nectar or Honey
  • 1 TBS Mexican Vanilla
  • 1/4th cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4th cup Sugar & 1 TBS more for later
  • 1 TBS of Cinnamon
  • ¼ TSP of Nutmeg
  • 1 TSP of Sea Salt

Bake It:

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 250° and line your baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. In a large bowl combine the Egg White, Jack Daniels, Agave Nectar (or honey), Mexican Vanilla and whisk until the mixture is frothy
  3. In another bowl combine sea salt, brown sugar, 1/4th cup of sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir until the spices are mixed well
  4. Using a spoon slowly add the 1 lb. of pecans to the egg white mixture. Stir until pecans are evenly coated
  5. Next slowly add the spice mixture to the pecans and keep stirring until the pecans are evenly coated in the spice mixture
  6. Pour the pecans onto the baking sheet, spread them out evenly
  7. Drizzle the 1/4th TBS of sugar and drizzle over the pecans
  8. Place the pecans into the oven and stir them about every 30 minutes
  9. When the pecans are cooked they will be very sticky, let them dry on the parchment paper they were cooked on, and let them cool for about an hour

-Enjoy your new favorite snack!
